Synthetic Phonics Resources for Teachers

Everything you need to get synthetic phonics up and running in your classroom — from structured lesson plans and decodable readers to assessment tools and intervention programs.

Watch: How Get Reading Right Works in Your Classroom

This video walks you through all of our resources — what they are, how they work together, and where each one fits in your teaching. If you’re new to Get Reading Right or considering it for your school, this is the best place to start.

How It All Fits Together

Our resources are designed to work as a complete system. Each product has a clear role in the teaching cycle, so you always know what to use and when.

1. Explicit Teaching
The Synthetic Phonics Toolkit gives you everything you need to structure and deliver your explicit phonics lessons — scope and sequence, lesson plans, and activities, all ready to go.
2. Children Apply
Alongside the Toolkit, use our magnetic letters so each child can identify the correct letter or letters for a phoneme and begin forming words — even before handwriting has fully developed.
3. Practice & Rotational Activities
Games and activities from the Toolkit, plus worksheets from the Synthetic Phonics Take Away, card games like Picture This! and Martian Reading, and peer reading with the Practice Books.
4. Readers
The Practice Books and Decodable Stories give children the chance to practise the skills you’ve taught in real books — during guided reading or phonics rotations.
5. Home Learning
Send home worksheets from the Synthetic Phonics Take Away to reinforce what children are learning in class. Simple, structured, and ready to photocopy.
6. Assessment
Keep every child on your radar with the built-in assessment tools in The Synthetic Phonics Toolkit. Track progress and identify who needs extra support, early.
7. Learning Support & Intervention
The Power Pack mirrors the explicit teaching from the mainstream lesson and intervenes early to ensure every child succeeds. Supplement with card games, readers, online games and more.
