For over 20 years, Get Reading Right has been helping schools teach children to read using systematic synthetic phonics. What began with a trial in four classrooms has grown into a trusted resource for over 1,900 schools across 30 countries — from suburban classrooms in Sydney to remote island communities in the Pacific.
How It Started
Get Reading Right was founded in 2005 after a phonics trial that changed everything. Four first-year classes in the same school were split into two groups: two classes were taught using traditional phonics, and two used systematic synthetic phonics.
After just four weeks, the trial was called off. The children in the traditional phonics group had fallen so far behind the synthetic phonics group that the school had no choice — they implemented our resources across the board.
Since those first four classes, we’ve seen this success repeated thousands of times over — in government schools, independent schools, remote Indigenous communities, and classrooms across 30 countries.
What We Do
We produce fun, multi-sensory reading and spelling resources grounded in the science of reading — the body of research that tells us exactly how children learn to decode written language. In England, this evidence was so compelling that systematic synthetic phonics is now mandatory in every primary school.
