Resources: Assessment 1: Camera Words record sheet Camera Word Photo Cards Procedure: 1. Ask the child to read each of the camera words 2. Although some time can be given for children to read the word it is important that children are able to recognise these words automatically. 3. Reassure the child being assessed that it doesn’t matter if they get it wrong and move on if it is evident that the child does not know how to read the word confidently. 4. Record a tick or a cross on the response sheet. Camera Word Spelling Purpose: To assess the spelling of irregular, high frequency words. Resources: Assessment 1: Camera Words record sheet Camera Word Spelling Record Sheet Procedure: Say each camera word slowly and ask the child to spell the word in the corresponding box. N.B. You may want to use the same assessment sheet for recording pre and post assessments, using different colours or symbols to show when correct reading and spelling was achieved. By using the same sheet it is easy to show a clear picture of the child’s achievements.
